Genres are a concept that students think they know all about, but in reality, are astonished at the fact that they are so flexible. They are in a way based around things people enjoy. Also, genres divide into sub-genres and then texts. Many people forget, or do not know about sub-genres and texts. It is important to know them as well as that they change.
When speaking about genres, another important factor to consider is rhetoric. That is the way in which you explain what you are speaking about. It is essential to explain your genre so your audience understands the overall purpose. It is important to know what to explain and how to do it. In a way, it is preparing and planning.
